Texas Innocence Network ("TIN") began at the University of Houston Law Center in March 2000, with a closet for an office, four volunteer students and a shoestring budget.
Today, TIN is an independent 501(c)(3) organization, with a larger office and scores of student investigators. However TIN is still an established component of the Law Center’s clinical curriculum.
Through a contract with the Law Center TIN provides services to the University of Houston Innocence Project, including supervising students and distributing cases for investigation to UHIP students.
In addition to utilizing and helping to train students from the University of Houston, TIN also works with students from the University of St. Thomas, Lamar University, Texas Southern University , Sam Houston State University, and the University of Texas School of Journalism.
In the aggregate, these students have accumulated more than 20,000 investigative hours over the past four years ; their efforts, in conjunction with TIN, have resulted in two inmates' being released from prison, two death penalty inmates' receiving a new trial, and numerous clemency petitions being filed. |
